How To: Review Your Instagram Security Settings After Adding 2FA

Before reconnecting your Instagram account to Storrito, we strongly recommend taking a few minutes to: enable two-factor authentication (2FA), review trusted devices, and clean up old or unfamiliar logins.

This helps prevent login issues, repeated verification prompts, and failed story publishing.

Step 1: Add Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Instagram now expects accounts to have 2FA enabled and recommends using an authenticator app, like Google or Apple Authenticator, in addition to your email and telephone number.

Important before you start

Enabling 2FA will log you out of your active sessions. This is normal and expected behaviour.

Make sure you:

  • Have access to your email and phone
  • Know your Instagram password
  • Are ready to log back in on your devices afterwards

How to enable 2FA

  1. Open Instagram
  2. Go to Settings and privacy
  3. Tap Accounts Center
  4. Select Password and security
  5. Open Two-factor authentication
  6. Add an authenticator app (recommended)

Once enabled, log back into Instagram on the devices you actively use.

For more detailed instructions, take a look at our guide.

Step 2: Review “Password and Security” Settings

After setting up 2FA, stay in Accounts Center → Password and security and review the following sections:

Additional methods

Here - depending on your region - you may see options such as:

  • Login requests: in-app approval prompts
  • Backup codes: always save a copy of these!

Some accounts may be able to toggle login requests on or off.

What to know:

  • If in-app notifications are enabled, you may receive an extra in-app notification after entering your 2FA code during the Storrito connection process
  • Switching this off reduces the number of steps required to connect your Instagram account to Storrito (i.e. you will not need to approve the connection in the Instagram app after inputting your password and 2FA code)

Additional Methods

Trusted devices

Next, open Trusted devices.

This list should include only devices you actively use, such as:

  • Your current browser
  • Your phone
  • Storrito (once reconnected): Storrito connections mostly display as Samsung devices

You can check the exact name of your connecting device ID in Storrito via Instagram Accounts > account name > active connections

If you see any devices in this list that you no longer use, please remove them. This helps Instagram recognise your current setup as safe and reduces verification loops.

You can have up to 5 trusted devices at one time per Instagram account!

Trusted Devices

Where you’re logged in

Now check Where you’re logged in.

Ideally:

  • This list should match your trusted devices
  • You should only see your active browser session(s) and/or mobile device(s)
  • Once you have reconnected via Storrito, you will also see the Storrito login here

Where You're Logged In

Step 3: Login Alerts (What Changed)

Instagram no longer allows users to turn off alerts for unrecognised logins.

This means:

  • Email and in-app alerts for new logins are always enabled
  • You may receive notifications even for legitimate logins

This is expected behaviour and not an error.

How Your Setup Should Look Before Reconnecting to Storrito

Before reconnecting your account, you should have:

✅ 2FA enabled (authenticator app preferred)

✅ Only current devices listed under Trusted devices

✅ Matching entries in Where you’re logged in

✅ No unfamiliar or out-of-date devices

Once this is in place, you can safely reconnect your Instagram account to Storrito.

Once You're Reconnected

When you log into Instagram on a new device, that device will be added to your trusted devices list after you successfully verify the login using one of your 2FA methods (e.g. authenticator app, WhatsApp, SMS). This will happen during the connection process.
